Coaching as a profession is experiencing dramatic
growth. From senior executives at Fortune 500 companies,
to the self-employed, to people in transition and
to people at the point of change in their lives are
looking more and more to coaches for guidance and
support.
Coaching is a professional relationship that focuses
on taking action toward the realization of your vision,
goals or desires.
In a coaching relationship, you and your coach
prioritize, plan, analyze, and brainstorm. Together
you evaluate options, make decisions, track you progress,
and celebrate the victories.
Coaching is consultative.
Coaching facilitates discovery by helping you
to find your own unique answers. The plans you make
are your own. The primary role of your coach is to
listen, question, observe, re-frame and keep you focused
on your agenda.
Coaching is educational.
Coaching helps you better use the knowledge you
already have. You learn by discovering answers rather
than by hearing them.
Coaching unlocks your potential to maximize your
own performance.
The focus of coaching is on identifying specific
objectives and developing strategic plans and actions
that will move you toward achieving your goals.
Coaching is flexible.
You and your coach custom-design a coaching arrangement
that meets your individual needs and schedule. The
basic design consists of:
An initial session to develop a coaching strategy
A planning session to identify your wants and needs
Regular on-going coaching sessions
Coaching sessions are usually weekly and last for
thirty minutes. Sessions are conveniently done on
the telephone to make the best use of time. Sessions
may be focused on one specific challenge you are facing
or on a much broader set of personal and professional
issues.
Coaching is fun.
Coaching is focused on action and looks to the
future
